Located on the western side of Praia da Rocha and Portimao, Praia do Vau is one of the Algarve's most popular beaches. Traditionally, Praia do Vau was the beach of choice for wealthy Portuguese families that spent their summers in the Algarve. Today, it is popular with visitors and residents alike. Praia do Vau is a magnificent beach, a vast stretch of golden sand that merges into the three other beaches of Praia dos Careanos, Praia do Amado and Praia dos Tres Castelos that form this part of the coast and leads all the way down to the more recognised Praia da Rocha. Praia do Vau and its neighbouring beaches have some spectacular rock formations caused by the ever eroding cliffs.
