Praia da Senhora da Rocha
Situated near Porches in the municipality of Lagoa on the Algarve in Portugal is the delightful beach of Praia da Senhora da Rocha, or Praia da Nossa Senhora da Rocha which translates into 'Beach of Our Lady of the Rock'. The beach is surrounded by the rugged cliffs that offer shelter to the small fishing community that operates from the beach. To the other side of Praia da Senhora da Rocha is Praia Nova, to which a tunnel has been excavated through the rocks to allow access to this beach. Sitting upon the promontory that seperates the two beaches is the Fort and Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Rocha, believed to have been built in the 14th Century.
