Praia da Rocha

Located in the central region of the Algarve in Portugal is the popular tourist resort of Praia da Rocha. Over the years Praia da Rocha has been built up solely to cater for the thousands of tourists that stay here throughout the year. Praia da Rocha boasts a beach that consists of a huge stretch of sand lined with sunbeds that becomes very crowded during the height of the summer.

However by taking a short walk you will find the slightly quieter and arguably much nicer beaches of Praia do Vau, Praia dos Careanos, Praia do Amado and Praia dos Tres Castelos.

Praia dos Tres Castelos

Situated just around the corner to the west of Praia da Rocha is Praia dos Tres Castelos, the first of three beaches along this part of the coast. The name of the beach Praia dos Tres Castelos (Three Castles) derives from the isolated rock formations in the sea just off the beach.

Praia do Amado

The second beach to the west of Praia da Rocha is Praia do Amado, a small sheltered beach backed up by the towering and constantly eroding cliffs. With access to the beach being via some fairly steep steps, this makes the beach a little quieter than the main beach at Praia da Rocha.

Praia dos Careanos

The third beach to the west of Praia da Rocha and just around the corner from Praia do Vau is the small beach of Praia dos Careanos. Like Praia do Amado, Praia dos Careanos is sheltered by the rugged cliffs that back up the beach and is often a much quieter beach than the larger ones of Praia da Rocha and Praia do Vau.

Praia do Vau

Situated at the western end of this stretch of coastline is the lovely beach of Praia do Vau. The beach becomes a vast expanse of golden sands at low tide and it is possible to walk along the beach eastwards to the other small beaches, however these become cut off as the tide rises.
