Cape St.Vincent & Sagres
Situated approximately 6 kilometres from the village of Sagres is Cape St.Vincent, right at the tip of western mainland Europe and offers stunning views of the western Algarve coast. The lighthouse at Cape St.Vincent sits proudly on the edge of the almost vertical cliffs, roughly 75 metres above the sea. Local fishermen are often seen perched precariously on the edge of these huge cliffs no matter what the weather! Guarding one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, the lighthouse is the second most powerful in Europe with its two 1000-watt lamps being visible from as far as 60 kilometres away. The coast around Sagres is dotted with many beaches, some of which are just sandy coves hidden at the foot of the towering cliffs while others are vast expanses of sand stretching far into the distance. Sagres still remains natural and unspoilt thanks to the lack of development to cater for the tourist industry, a must visit part of the Algarve for anyone interested in seeing the real Portugal.

Stormy Sagres
A stormy day at Sagres Point as the massive waves roll in off the Atlantic Ocean. Taking into consideration that the cliffs here are roughly 60 to 70 meters high, at times the waves were breaking over the top of the cliffs in the distance.
